ok, welcome to my oddball l.a architectural blog, installment #2.

and this instalment might seem especially odd, as it’s not a terribly remarkable or architecturally significant house. it’s not mid century, it’s not grand, but it’s emblematic of the decontextualized randomness of architecture in los angeles.

see, it’s a simple country house.  it’s pretty and bucolic.  it’s got a nicely pitched roof to keep the snow off.  and it’s egregiously unremarkable. except for the fact that it’s smack dab in the middle of a sprawling sub-tropical megalopolis of 15,000,000 people.

most urban architecture looks like urban architecture, be it old or new. you look at an old stone or brick building or a new soaring steel and glass skyscraper and you know you’re looking at a building in a city. but in l.a the urban architecture looks like, well, anything (although rarely does urban architecture in l.a actually resemble anything conventionally known or referred to as urban).

so here’s a perfect little country house with thatched roof and leaded windows.

i could lie and say that i took it while hiking through the cotswolds.

but:

1-i’ve never been hiking through (or in) (or on) the cotswolds.

and

2-it was taken saturday afternoon in studio city in north hollywood surrounded by 15,000,000 people.
